TOPIC 1:GETTING READY TO LEARN
I Have learned this topic by sir Abdul
Rashid Zakaria,a lecturer at UITM Machang,Kelantan
The different between high school and university
HIGH
SCHOOL
|
UNIVERSITY
|
Each day you proceed from one class
directly to another, spending 6 hours each day (30 hours a week) in class.
|
You often have hours between classes; class
times vary throughout the day and evening and you spend only 12 to 16 hours
each week in class
|
You need permission to participate in
extracurricular activities
|
You must decide whether to participate in
co-curricular activities.
|
Most of your classes are arranged for you.
|
You arrange your own schedule in consultation
with your adviser. Schedules tend to look lighter than they really are.
|
Teachers check your completed homework and some teachers will give a punishment for those who didn't complete their homework.
|
Lecturers may not always check completed
homework, but they will assume you can perform the same tasks on tests.
|
The attendance formally be taken by the teachers in each class
|
Lecturers may not formally take the attendance but they have to know that you attend a class or not.If you skip 3 times of class, your final exam will be suspended.
|
Classes usually not more than 40 students in each class.
|
Classes may number 100 students or more (more
than 500 for some first-year classes!).
|
1)Attend all classes to make sure you don't miss every lesson
2)Become an active learner such as frequently ask the lecturer
3)Participate in class to interest the lecturer
4)Get to know your lecture such as his/her full name
5)Form study group with friends to discuss and exchange ideas each others
6)Stay up-to-date with your work
7)Work hard each semester to achieve your goals
8)Be receptive to change
MY PERSONAL LEARNING STYLES
Every people is different in terms of attitude, opinion, taste and also learning. There are about three learning style, visual, auditory and kinesthetic
I have been using a system of ENLP to know my learning
styles
1)Auditory=27
2)Visual=20
3)Kinesthetic=27
4)Digital=26
TOPIC 2: GOAL SETTING
What Are Goals?
- the process of identifying something that you want to
accomplish and establishing measurable goals and timeframes.
MY ACADEMIC GOALS
|
|
Goal Statement:
I want to get on
dean’s list in each semester which is CGPA 3.5 above
I want to further
study in degree with the same course
|
List Of Obstacle:
I have trouble
following the lecture and struggle to take notes.I have to snap some of notes
to get it
The books is very
hard to read and understand
I have difficulty
in understanding lecture teaching.
|
List Of Resources:
I will read or
research about the chapter before the lecture.I will rewrite some notes
afterward
I will highlight
and take note as I read
I will ask the
lecturers about the topic that I don’t understand
I will make a
revision so that I can get ready for the test
|
Revise Goal
Statement:
I will try hard to
get on the dean dean’s list in each semester and to further study in degree
|
Polish Goal
Statement:
I will get on the
dean’s list which is CGPA 3.5 above in each semester
I will get to further
studies in degree
|
Characteristics Of Goals
1)S – Specific
your
goal has to be specific and clear.some vague notion of wanting to be a
successful person next year is not specific.its like a person saying they want
to success.success in what? How long we need to achieve that goals? What can we
do to success? Otherwise you won’t be able to focus your efforts or feel truly
motivated to achieve it
2)M
- Measurable
The
goal has to be measurable so that you can track your progress and stay
motivated.Assessing progress helps you to stay focused, meet your deadlines, and
feel the excitement of getting closer to achieving your goal
3)A
- Achievable
You
can determine whether you reached it.In other words,it should stretch your
abilities but still remain possible. You begin to figure out ways you can make
them come true.Inspiring, meaningful, challenging enough to motivates people to
do it and succeed.
4)R
- Realistic
When
looking at past performance and growth,is your goal realistic? We all need
support and assistance in achieving our goal, but its important to retain
control over them.so,make sure that your plans drive everyone forward, but that
you are still responsible for achieving you own goal
5)T
- Time Oriented
Breaking
goals into measurable, achievable, and realistic portions by a certain time
provides the team a roadmap to progress.Setting goals that can be monitored
with weekly and monthly numbers will help you adjust strategies to real world
conditions.
FIXED COMMITMENT CALENDAR
JOB TASK ANALYSIS EXAMPLE:
FIXED COMMITMENT CALENDAR
TOPIC 3:TIME MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
I
have learn this topic by Sir Abdul Rashid Zakaria
WHAT IS TIME?
Time is the indefinite continued progress
of existence and event in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole
DEFINITION OF TIME
Time management is the process of
planning and exercising conscious control of time spent on specific
activities,especially to increase effectiveness,efficiency or productivity.It
is juggling act of various demands of study, social life, employment, family, and
personal interests and commitments with the finiteness of time
ADVANTAGE OF BEING ORGANISED
1)Focus
Being
organized will enable you to focus more on what you want to achieve, both at
work
And in your home life. This will allow you to make better
decisions as you visualize where you are and want to go
2)Increased productivity
You will be able to be more productive In your study.By
reducing the time and mental resources you expand/waste,you will have
exponentially more time for the important stuff.Organised people are often
twice as productive as unorganized people
3)Better time management
By organizing or prioritizing what you do you can better
ensure that the tasks that are crucial get more priority. It’s really simple if
you are more productive you get more time

accordingly, leaving you less stressed. You are able to focus on other important
things
5 STRATEGIES TO DEVELOP A SUCCESSFUL SYSTEM OF
STUDY
-Use a weekly schedule
-Use a daily planner
-Use a semester calendar
-Balance academic with social and personal demands
-Avoid procrastination
DEFINITION OF PROCRASTINATION
-The action of delaying or postponing something
COMMON REASON WHY PEOPLE
PROCRASTINATION
-Being a perfectionist
-Avoiding failure
-Feeling overwhelmed
-They get distracted
-Unclear about how to get started
-Don’t feel pleasure doing it
-Focus on the fear or pain
STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME PROCRASTINATION
1)Get rid of catastrophizing
One of the biggest reasons people procrastination is because
they catastrophizing,or make huge deal out of something. It may be related to
how tough, how boring,or how painful it will be to complete the task.Whatever
the case, the underlying theme is that doing the task will be unbearable
2)Be Realistic
As you establish your schedule, set yourself up for
success.projects often take much longer than expected,so bake in some extra
time and look for ways to make it easier on yourself. For example, you are not a
morning person, don’t expect yourself to get up an hour early to start the
exercise program.
3)Excuses be gone
Be honest with yourself. It might be nice to “be in the
mood”,but waiting for that to happen can mean you never start your project
4)Get a partner
Establish specific deadlines for completing a task. Then find
someone who will help you be accountable or simply find an accountability
partner. This can be a great way to squash procrastination
5)Reward good behavior
Establish a reward if-and only if-you do what you set out to
do.Do not let yourself binge that new Netflix show, check your social media,or
get lunch until you complete your schedule.

The UiTM Machang campus is one of the branches of MARA University of Technology located in the state of Kelantan Darul Naim . It was established in July 1985 as the ninth UiTM branch campus in a temporary location near Kota Bharu . Today, the UiTM campus of the Kelantan branch is located at its permanent location in Machang after moving in January 1996 .
My lecturer has given us a task to introduce the department at Uitm Machang. We need to make a short video about the department.so,here is the link of the video.I hope, you can enjoy it!
WHAT IS MEMORY?
Memory is the ability to remember and remain the
information and the past experience. The power or process of recalling to mind previously learned facts, experiences, impressions, skills and habits.
INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL
INFORMATION PROCESSING MODEL
1)Sensory memory
Sensory memory is a brief storage of information that lasts for a few seconds..For example, are ironic (visual) memory and echoic (auditory memory). Most information from the five senses will be stored. When we focus on the stimulus, it may pass to the short term memory.but if we do not pay attention, the information will not be permanent or lost.
2)Short-term memory
(Immediate memory and working memory)
(Immediate memory and working memory)
most of information from sensory memory is forgotten.Immediate memory is the place where some information can be temporarily kept for more than a few seconds but less than one minute. Our short-term memory have only limited storage.
Working memory is a system for temporarily storing and managing the information required to carry out complex cognivitive tasks such as learning, reasoning, and comprehension. The information must repeated in order to get information to long-term memory
Working memory is a system for temporarily storing and managing the information required to carry out complex cognivitive tasks such as learning, reasoning, and comprehension. The information must repeated in order to get information to long-term memory
3)Long-term memory
Our long-term memory is unlimited and have large
storage and can be kept for days, months, and years.Although we may forget some information after we learn it,but the other things will stay.If the information is not being used for long time, the information will
be lost
MEMORY STRATEGIES
-it can help everyone to keep their memories, experience and learning. The student that improve their memory is also the reason they can succes, because student who has a good memory, they will be able to remember many information after they learn it.
WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR MEMORY
-Pay extra attention to dificult information
-Repeat the information many times
-Train your brain
-Relate new information to things you already know
UNDERSTANDING CONCENTRATION
CONCENTRATION means focusing your attention on what you are doing
STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING CONCENTRATION
1)Environment
-make sure you are comfortable. You can choose any ways that make you comfort such as find a better location, reduce multitasking. Some people will start by ensuring their chair and desk are at the right height and listen to the favourite music to get a good mood
2)Nutrition
- Drink water – dehydration can make us feel tired, irritable, slow, or even sick. When our brains don't have enough fluid, they can't operate at peak performance. Staying hydrated is an easy way to help improve your concentration during the day.
- Eat breakfast – Start your day with a healthy breakfast. It's much harder to concentrate when you're hungry,so eat well but don't eat too much because its also can make you feel sleepy. You can also help your concentration throughout the day by keeping healthy snacks at your desk.
- Fokus on one task at the time – It can be much harder to focus if you take minibreaks (15–30 seconds) to answer emails, send text messages, or take quick phone calls. It can ruin your fokus because you
- Prioritize – Having too much to do also causes procrastination. Or, you may quickly jump from task to task, creating the illusion of work – but in reality, you're not accomplishing very much. If you're not sure which tasks to start or which are most important, take 10 or 15 minutes to prioritize your to-do list
4)Active learning strategies
-make group discussion with members. You can exchange ideas,or ask your members to explain about the topic that you don't understand and you can explain it to others.its help you to remember and concentration
